Twentyone Pictures is a truly director-driven production company founded by filmmaker Ellen Ugelstad. We focus on artistic innovation, hybrid expressions and alternative production structures and we don´t distinguish between fiction or documentary. The ambition is to produce films of high cultural, political and artistic relevance that can migrate on several plattforms internationally. EDITORIAL LINE — CURATORIAL APPROACH

At Twentyone Pictures, we champion films shaped by a strong artistic voice and a distinct, subjective gaze. We are drawn to works that dare to observe reality from unexpected angles — personal, poetic, or quietly subversive.

Our focus lies on directors who expand the language of cinema: formally inventive works, hybrid expressions, and projects that rethink narrative, performance, space or authorship. We look for filmmaking that explores the tension between the intimate and the societal — where personal experience becomes a lens to understand the world.

The themes we gravitate towards are rooted in the human condition: identity, belonging, mental health, childhood, the climate crisis, and voices often pushed to the margins. What unites our slate is not genre, but sensibility and temprement — a curiosity about the unseen forces shaping our lives, and a willingness to question dominant narratives.

We view cinema as a cultural act. Each film is crafted with the intention to resonate beyond the screen — to travel across borders, spark reflection, and find its place within both the cinematic landscape and the contemporary art field.
