Twentyone Pictures is a director-driven production company founded by filmmaker Ellen Ugelstad. We focus on artistic innovation, hybrid expressions and alternative production structures and we don´t distinguish between fiction or documentary. The ambition is to produce films of high cultural, political and societal relevance that can migrate on several plattforms internationally. At Twentyone Pictures, we champion films shaped by a strong artistic voice and a distinct, subjective gaze. We are drawn to works that dare to observe reality from unexpected angles — personal, poetic, or quietly subversive.

Our focus lies on directors who expand the language of cinema: formally inventive works, hybrid expressions, and projects that rethink narrative, performance or authorship. We look for filmmaking that explores the tension between the intimate and the societal — where artistic temperament becomes a lens to understand the world.

The themes we gravitate towards are rooted in the human condition: identity, belonging, mental health, childhood, the climate crisis, and voices pushed to the margins. What unites our slate is not genre, but sensibility and temprement — a curiosity about the unseen structures shaping our lives, and a willingness to question dominant narratives.

Each film is crafted with the intention to resonate beyond the screen — to travel across borders, spark reflection, and find its place among audiences globally.
